OUR ENVIRONMENT

Kope Initiatives takes a Lead by Saying ‘No’ to Plastic Bags.

KOPE INITIATIVES (KOPE stands for Keep Our Planet Earth) has made alliance with number of the country’s major supermarket retailers by signing the Australian Retailer’s Association Code of Practice that sets targets for getting rid of plastic shopping bags.

Soul Pattinson Chemist had joined Clean Up Australia’s ‘Say No to Plastic Bags’ campaign and is the first pharmacy group in Australia to support movement against the use of plastic bags.

The campaign calls for shoppers to ‘Say No to Plastic Bags’ and for retailers to ‘Put an End to use of Plastic Bags’ with the aim of inspiring action to reduce plastic bag usage.

In addition, Soul Pattinson Chemist has a series of environmental initiatives to encourage shoppers to consider the hazardous effects on world’s eco-systems by the use of plastic.

In this campaign, the first is the launch of the Soul Pattinson Chemist’s Eco-bag – a new reusable shopping bag. The bag represents a positive step towards making use of plastic bags a thing of the past.

Next is the initiative by KOPE to replace the plastic bags with Cotton  bags/biodegradable bags. Cotton bags at KOPE are designed to hold the volume of 2-5 plastic bags.

Each time a customers uses a cotton bag, we are taking a positive step to reduce the growing plastic bag mountain.

By using a Cotton bag, customers will be making a positive contribution towards ridding our environment of plastic bags and harmful effects accompanying its usage.

We, at KOPE INITIATIVES deal in a wide variety of eco-friendly, ethnic, organic and fair-traded products.

Most of our products are made by artisans (victims of natural disasters and from rehab programs). Currently we promote bags, garments and paper products made by rural folk who were victims of the earthquake in January 2001 (which occurred at a place called Kutch, in the state of Gujarat, in India). We also promote products made by victims of a gas tragedy in Bhopal, India. You may visit www.kopeinitiatives.com to read more about us.

Our organization has a modest setup, where we employ men & women from lower economic strata of life, paying them above-average salaries, providing them with good work conditions and we do not employ child labor.
